A Primigi shoe for every age

There can be no doubt as to the design content of Primigi children's shoes: a taste for detail that is typically Italian, a passion for beautiful materials and an accurate research aimed at satisfying the practical requirements of today's children.
Each model is fruit of a great tradition combined with international fashion trends.
More important still, these models derive from a capacity to reinterpret fashion, styles and colours with the eyes, spontaneity and imagination of modern children.
Your kid's size?

12-14 Months: just about walking...

An important choice

Now more than ever, shoes must be chosen with great attention because they are indispensable in helping a toddler acquire confidence and self-assurance, when taking his first steps, and in order to assume a correct posture. A toddler sets out to explore the surrounding world on his own and a pair of suitable shoes may help him to do so.

Fundamental requirements

The ideal shoes at this age are the high-top models that give correct support to the child's ankles, without being too tight, unlike the low-cut models which might slip off easily when his little feet are still quite chubby.
Another important feature is that his shoes must be extremely delicate when in contact with his sensitive skin, without of course losing their shape.
And what about the soles? Wide and pliable at the toe and sturdier at the heel, in order to give him a good footing.
With regards to materials, these should be natural and soft, such as leather, hide or fabric. No objection to the newer materials either, so long as they are soft and allow his little feet to breathe.

Buckles, laces or Velcro?

Velcro fastenings are fine, as well as making shoes easy to put on and take off. This will help your child to learn how to unfasten them very quickly! If he is very tiny it may be better to go for laces or buckles: these two methods offer a further advantage of a more precise fastening and therefore are particularly suitable for little feet that are still taking shape.

15 months - 5 years: feet are always on the go

Fundamental requirement

The PRIMIGI experience suggests soft yet sturdy uppers, flexible soles that afford protection from the hard ground, and safe practical fastenings.
Compared with toddlers, children belonging to this age group have more tapered feet and this is reflected in the shape of the shoes.

What about breathability?

Since children are so active and frequently go from indoors to outdoors and vice versa, their footwear must allow their feet to breathe. The insole in particular must be chosen in natural breathable materials.

6 - 10 years: I want to chose, just like grown-ups do

Fundamental requirements

At school, in the gym or on a trip... Shoes are used on an increasing number of occasions and consequently need to be hard-wearing and flexible. Comfortable uppers, indestructible soles and a stylish appearance, especially for girls. But the fashion details should never be extreme, to the detriment of foot comfort and well-being: at PRIMIGI we are well aware of this and renew our collection each season with a vast range of models for all ages, combining the latest fashion trends with scrupulous attention to high quality standards.

Gym shoes at all times?

Children of this age, especially boys, would wear training shoes all day long. It is advisable however, to get them used to wearing the right shoes for each occasion, starting from a very early age. Each model, in fact, has been created for a specific purpose. Training shoes should only be worn for sports activities while, for the rest of the day, we should choose shoes that children love for their sporty appearance and that mothers value for their light and breathable materials.

Changing with the seasons:

Winter

At least two types of shoes are required: one pair for outdoor use, suitable for cold and rainy weather, like a pair of PRIMIGI GORE-TEX® for waterproof protection and breathable comfort, and another pair for indoors with very light, flexible soles.

Autumn and Spring

In these in-between seasons, never switch directly from a heavy shoe to an open one or vice versa. Choose a pair of PRIMIGI GORE-TEX® shoes with SURROUND™ product technology. The medium weight models are indispensable in the summer, in light leather with insoles in leather or canvas.

Summer

Before the age of two, and especially until the time when baby starts to crawl, it is better to choose sandals that are closed at the heel and toe, affording greater protection and support. From the age of two upwards, children can wear these more protective models when engaged in highly active pursuits, alternating them on quieter occasions with open-toed sandals. To be avoided at all ages are the clog-type models, without any strap on the heel, since these may cause fatigue and jeopardize children's movements.
